While it looks a bit like a motorcycle helmet with PC fans slapped all over it, researchers at the University of Sunderland in England believe that patients affected by Alzheimer's who wear their apparatus will experience improvement. The helmet exposes the brain to infrared light, which has been shown to help encourage the growth of brain cells (tomorrow's headline: Beer Helmets Add Infrared Technology).
The idea to use infrared light to treat Alzheimer's patients came after it was shown to overturn memory loss in mice. Dr. Gordon Dougal, one of the lead researchers on the project, said of the technology: "The implications of this research at Sunderland are enormous — so much so that in the future we could be able to affect and change the rate at which our bodies age."
The disease affects hundreds of thousands here in the United States, and of those tens of thousands die from it.

I AM INTERESTED IN THE INFRARED HELMET. WHERE CAN IT BE OBTAINED.
HAS IT BEEN USED WITH "CP" PATIENTS?

Is the infrared applieed in a pulsating form,or steady beams?

How could the brain be exposed to infra red light when skin and bone would effectively block light from reaching those affected areas?

Is this helmet available to purchase? If so where?

A FEW QUESTIONS WERE POSED AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE HELMET CAN BE PURCHASED, AND IF SO, WHERE. I WOULD LIKE TO POSE THE SAME QUESTION. ALSO, IS THERE A PLACE TO SIGN UP TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HUMAN STUDY ONCE IT BEGINS?
