Newspaper log maker is a pyro's way to be green

brick_maker.jpg

Recycling isn't the only way to feel good about yourself with those stacks and stacks of newspapers sitting around. With winter rolling in it is time to prep those fireplaces. Rather than using inefficient wadded up newspaper in the fireplace, make a log of your own — no seeds and hundreds of years of tree-growth required.

This device will make logs out of newspaper that are capable of long-time burning and make you feel warm and toasty inside — literally and figuratively — for doing something good for the environment. The brick makers will press damp newspaper into the log shape and will light easily after drying. Oh, and while you are reusing newspaper, don't forget about wrapping gifts in the funny pages this year, those are always the best gifts, even if they usually were usually sweaters or socks. The brick maker is available for $30.

I have been using a Logmaker, sent to me from the UK, where it was invented and is currently being marketed. It requires no soaking of paper in water (unless you want to), and I was able to start making logs from my newspapers and other filler within minutes of opening the box and reading the instructions. I happen to know the inventor is looking for a distributor in the USA. Check out his website and get in touch with him at the "contact details" e-mail address. His name is Arthur and he has really created something wonderful! Go To http://www.logmaker.org.uk/
