Although this Netgear ReadyNAS hard disk enclosure looks almost exactly like a dehumidifier that's buzzing away in our basement right now, it's a whole lot more useful. That's because it's a well-known fact that you can't be too rich, too thin, or have too much disk space. This one gives you up to 4 TB of discosity—enough to store more HDTV movies than you'd care to watch in a month—and it's a cinch to simply plug it into your network and there it is, ready to go.
While its press materials aren't revealing any pricing info yet except a cryptic comment about "list prices starting at $1099," these ReadyNAS (NAS stands for network attached storage) are available in 1.5 TB, 2 TB, 3 TB and 4 TB capacities. All except the smallest one contain four speedy SATA drives inside their workmanlike enclosures. Available now, they're compatible with even the fastest networks, each fitting right into the latest gigabit Ethernet setups.
