The Pentagon's Defence Advanced Research Project Agency, aka the guys who get a ton of cash to dream up stuff like laser weaponry and human catapults, are now looking into virtual weapon ranges to test out different means of eliminating cyber-threats. DARPA reportedly wants to invest in existing networked facilities that will provide all of the realism that in-the-flesh, hardware firing ranges provide, yet offer easy expansion since it's all virtual. A tall order to be sure, but, hey, it's DARPA, and if they want to drop virtual bombs on digital bunkers running on computers linked to a worldwide network, why not?
