The Cowon Q5W portable media player is pretty much the granddaddy of the genre, delivering a huge feature list that should satisfy any media junkie. Featuring a big, beautiful screen with a great resolution (720x480) and a 60GB hard drive to store all your goodies, it's the perfect gadget for people who want a ton of features and don't mind a bit of a bulky package.
It can play video and audio in pretty much any format, to start with. It also has built-in WiFi and a touchscreen keyboard, allowing you to surf the web on it. It's got a GPS mount for optional location-based functionality, and it also has built-in FM radio. You can scroll through your photos on the big screen, and it can even read RAW files from serious cameras, making it a great way to preview your shots. Sure, it's kind of big, and at $599 it's not exactly cheap, but it doesn't get much better than this.

The Q5W is a feature-pack player. It just needs a better user interface to go along with it.
