Next time someone walks over to check out what books you enjoy, the books might be watching back. And listening. The Book Camera looks like your usual hardback, but features a camera with a pinhole lens, a minuscule microphone and a remote controlled video recorder and monitor tucked away inside. Snooping is as easy as checking the viewer at the end to see what kind of nefarious (or probably boring) acts you recorded. Unless it's plugged in, though, it looks like the Book Camera will only operate for an hour.
Hopefully it's embedded in a yarn no one will ever want to grab from the shelf. The Book Camera sells from Spycatcher, a British gadget site specializing in toys for the paranoid, for around $1,300, which doesn't include a memory card to capture what you record.
