This ain't your pappas Volkswagen Beatle. No, this super-futuristic concept design for an all-electric VW doesn't look like anything else the company has ever made before, that's for sure. The concept, created by Marc Kirsch in collaboration with Volkswagen Design in Wolfsburg, Germany, sports three seats and an aerodynamic body.
One really interesting aspect of the design is that the trunk can be detached and wheeled away as a suitcase. I'm not sure just how practical that is, but it's certainly unique. That clear surface wrapped around the outside of the car is an OLED screen that can display info to the driver and passengers inside, which is certainly an interesting idea. Clearly this won't be available at your local VW dealership anytime soon, but it certainly is a cool look at what they may be working on for the future.

How does the door open with the screen in the way?

This is a prototype. This is not supposed to be a "working model". But you can guess that either one of two methods will be applied to allow the driver and passengers to get in or out.
The simplest is to hinge the wrapped screen at the dashboard so the entire screen lifts up when a door is opened. Not good for wet or cold weather becauuse the roof is part of the screen.
The second and most practical is that the screen is cut around the doors, and becomes functional windows. That breaks the design but most prototypes have to be "broken" before becoming a working model.
I love the electric powertrain, but the OLED screen is an big overkill, and ghastly expensive to replace. A smaller OLED screen insert at the dashboard area would do just right.

It's hot...kinda reminds me of a Corvette, though, and you can get those now. But, yeah, definately on my top cars list.
