Unmanned robotic boats to thwart the plundering high-seas pirates

protector-630.jpg

The Halloween pirates and piracy pirates have nothing on the real-life pirates that are currently roaming the seas trying to plunder and pillage. The United States Navy and Coast Guard know these dangers and are looking into an unmanned robotic pirate hunting ship named the Protector to battle these Johnny Depp imposters.

The Protector is an unmanned surface vehicle that is capable of patrolling harbors and other vessels for pirate ships. This 30-foot boat comes with a 7.62mm machine gun that could send any pirate packing. The Protector is more of a warning vessel with a gun included for good measure. It will include a plethora of sensors, beacons and other gadgets doodads capable of detecting intruding ships and reporting the findings.

The 55 mph-capable Protector is the work of BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin and the Israeli defense firm, RAFAEL. It is already available and being put to work by the Israeli and Singaporean Navies. Yes, the battle of robots versus ninjas will finally be commencing. See, RIAA, this is how you fight pirates!
