We've seen the PlayStation 3 go though its ups and downs and now the latest story line involved another rumored price drop ... of the PlayStation 2. There will be a rumored "compact" PS2 that includes an integrated power supply and a price tag that finally breaks the triple digit barrier at $99. This console is said to be a 2008 addition, you know, outside of the holiday season that will be packed to the bone with gaming console options.
Don't get me wrong, price cuts are fantastic, but why cut the price of a 8 year old console when they have the PS3 sitting in the wings needing some love as well? It's obvious — they've tried everything in the book with the PS3 and when all else fails, return to good old successful Bessey.
The PS2 has what the PS3 still needs. First being a solid fan-base that was transitioned in from the PS1 and secondly and more importantly, a very solid list of exclusive titles. So Sony, why don't you take some hints from your predecessor rather than trying to suck every last dime out of that ancient console. I want to love the PS3, I really do, but I need help on your end as well.
