Last week we noted that Radiohead's "choose your price for our new album" experiment would probably be good for major record labels in the long run. But why wait? The band's old record label, EMI's Parlophone, is trying to capitalize on the Radiohead media explosion now by selling the band's old albums at a discount in various different formats.
Right now you can pre-order a limited edition box set of Radiohead's six major albums, plus a disc of live recordings from the record label for $83. The same music will also be available in a high-quality (320 kbps), DRM-free download for $73. The most fun option is a 4gb USB flash drive that holds all 79 songs as CD-quality WAV audio files, for $166.
If these prices sound exorbitant, it's only because they're converted from British pounds to our exceptionally weak US dollar. The £40, £35, and £80 that the albums cost in England are actually very reasonable (though non-negotiable) prices for the music in that country. The collections will ship on December 10.
