New Knight Rider KITT is a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR

kitt2.jpg

The one time in his life that David Hasselhoff was upstaged, it was when working with Knight Industries Two Thousand, or KITT, his super intelligent car featured in the series Knight Rider. For those unaware, Knight Rider is making its triumphant return to television more than a decade after the original series was canned.

KITT was originally a Pontiac Trans Am, but for this modern day remake, the car is officially a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR, first reported by the sleuths at Jalopnik that spotted the car being developed in an LA facility. There is no word on what awesome gadgets and features the next generation 550HP KITT will feature, but we would assume it will be one-upping its Pontiac predecessor that was loaded to the guns with everything from thermal resistant coating, a parachute, tear gas, a "telephone comlink" (I can't help but laugh at that), microwave jammer and more.

Hello - wake up, somebody in continuity... Knight Rider was almost *25* years ago, not "more than a decade." And, sadly, the "advanced technology" in the show was actually not so much, as measured by 80's state of the art. One hopes the remake does a little better. (Advice: Go read Gibson; or Heinlein; or see a few Star Trek episodes, or even read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged... Please!)

The new KITT of the XXI century looks cool!

As it goes for the show... well. It may be the best tv show of the last few years or the worst one :D

This makes me sad...

EEgads. I'm sorry, the Mustang is a nice car and all, but it just cannot match the sleek lines of a Trans Am. Personally I would have ratherseen a Corvette and not one of those new ones... Too bad Pontiac iced the Trans Am, but a Stag is just not kitt.

they should of picked the new Camaro.

I vote for the new Camaro... it was a badazz car in Transformers... but I had a Firebird b/c I loved the Knight Rider one on TV.

By Isoline at 1:54 AM ON 12/01/07

Hmmm...I was there in the beginning and I always thought the car was cool despite the cheese factor of the series. Now I miss the car and find this one a mere impostor of KITT. Granted a sleek and shiny impostor but no where near the real spirit of KITT.

This comment is for SensGeni.

Hello First off they are correct. The last movie involving Kitt. The last offical movie involving Kitt was made was released in 94 and became a series, though it was more of a spinoff and it is not considered part of the canon. It did have Kitt in it. In the final episode we find out he is the actual one who is running the team. So 91 was the last movie starring both Kitt and Hassalhoff. So they are closer to being right then you think

A decade is ten years...therefore more than a decade is correct. GG nice try though.

By questmaker at 11:55 PM ON 12/02/07

As cars go I love the Mustang. As the new KITT, not so much.

By something new at 10:59 PM ON 12/28/07

ok this is not a firebird but if this is something new i watch it. think about its his son playing him. you just cant have this same car. people this is something new...

By DhilukPerera at 12:12 PM ON 12/31/07

the shelby gt500kr is a beautiful car no doubt. But the producers of the series could have picked a better car. Since the show is American, it would have been the norm to have an all american muscle car, but sadly this is not the best car or for that matter the besat mustang that has been made. The KITT in the earlier series pulled off some tight turns and corners to perfection. Sadely this mustang's hadling and suspension is not upto the standard of a european or british sports car. Many people would not notice or even care of how the mustang handle, but there are a few who will always feel that there is a better car to pick for the part or KITT

this is going to be a nice touch to this movie. the kr mustang is a nice car by all means and it is going to be good to see this car in action before it is out on the market to buy and it is time to see a cobra do the job a pontiac could not because a mustang cobra called the terminator put it on the shelf.

By 9sholmes at 9:24 PM ON 03/27/08

The new Kitt is quite the tribute to the old Knightrider show. I especially love the detail of the horse symbol. The horse symbol on the Mustang is the same one used to represents the foundation from 25 years back. The Mustang and the Horse symbol has a deep symbolic thread to the original Knightrider.
