Mitsubishi Electric built this impressive looking walk-in panoramic display as a custom order at its factory in Kyoto, Japan. The display consists of an array of 17 pairs of 67 inch, rear-projection displays synced up to one another — all together forming a 340 degree enclosure around the viewer. The presentation takes advantage of Digital Light Processing technology for a brighter image and has a total resolution of 27 million pixels.
So who will Mitsubishi ship the panoramic display to early next year? The company's not saying, though it does hope to be able to sell its viewing enclosure to others, such as for presentations at museums or for traffic simulations. Our bet: some evil corporation with a lab deep under the surface commissioned the project to simulate windows for its subterranean lair.
