In the supermarkets of tomorrow (or The Future), you may be able to find out everything you want to about a food by placing it on a platform like the one pictured above. The hiREC Product Recorder will display all kinds of nutritional information such as ingredients, related food intolerances, expiration dates and recipes on its touchscreen. It won't just do food, either. The hiREC would be able to display information for a variety of other products, like different types of medicine at a pharmacy.

The hiREC is a concept thought up by designer Andrea Vecera, and won the Silver Award at the 2007 Samsung Young Design Awards. — Kevin Hall
