AT&T CEO promises 3G iPhone next year

iphoneNU_7.jpgIf you were looking for a reason to hold off on buying an iPhone until next year, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson just gave you one. That's because when asked whether or not a 3G iPhone was in the pipeline, he said "You'll have it next year."

What's the big deal with 3G? Well, the current iPhone runs on the pokey 2G EDGE network, making surfing the web on it when not at a WiFi hotspot painful at best. A 3G iPhone would allow you to surf the web at broadband speeds from anywhere and would make downloading songs from the iTunes Music Store on your iPhone a doable affair. Basically, it would add all the functionality that you get at a WiFi hotspot to the iPhone anywhere it goes. Seems worth the wait, no?

this might actually make the iphone worth buying! but i might still hold off for better storage, anything less than 50gb is kinda lame.

This gives me a pretty good reason to buy one next year...I don't need it for the storage size (8gb is fine, all my important stuff is on my IPod I use as a portable HD). It won't be perfect but it will be better than it is now...
