Solar trees, no raking involved

What do you do when those trees lining your boulevard get diseased, die or fall down? Getting a large growth could take years, and that's a surefire way to lose the aesthetics of your trendy neighborhood. Working with Sharp Solar, artist Ross Lovegrove created Solar Trees to remind people of greener times.

The street light/art installation is powered by the Sun, meaning the Solar Trees are not only pretty to look at, they're environmentally friendly too. Even though the lights are already in place, the official unveiling occurs October 8, 2007 at the MAK Museum as part of Vienna Design Week.
