Sharp's multi-touch LCD optically scans with every pixel

Sharp-Multitouch-LCD-Optical-Scanner.jpg

Keeping organized can be pretty rough. The moment I saw this multi-touch LCD scanner by Sharp, I looked at the sky-high stack of business cards sitting next to my computer and only nodded.

While Sharp's multi-touch LCD is a touchscreen, it probably doesn't operate in the way you might be used to. Rather than using sensitive materials to register touch, every pixel on the LCD optically scans wherever you're pressing, allowing it to track multiple points of contact at once. Not only does this technology allow for more responsive and sturdy interfaces, it enables the LCD to do things like scan a business card. With any luck, we won't be waiting long to take advantage of this technology and digitally archive all that stuff we used to have to manually input into our organizers.
