Sharp unveils razor-thin new LCD screen for mobile consumers

sharpthinscreen321.jpg

While most of the LCD industry is obsessed with going bigger Sharp has been focused on making screens smaller. The company's latest achievement in this area brings us an LCD screen 2.2-inches wide and just 0.68 millimeters thick. Primarily intended for use in mobile devices the screen boasts a resolution of 320 x 240.

That might not mean much to you if you're in North America (for now), but in Japan where tiny One-Seg televisions are increasingly seen on trains being used by salarymen and schoolgirls alike, the crisp visuals and thinner screens will definitely enhance the mobile television viewing experience. The company showed off the new technology at this week's FPD International 2007 in Yokohama, Japan.
