SanDisk 8GB TakeTV simplifies the media center process

taketv.png

We've seen media centers of all shapes, sizes and types around these parts, but they all share one similar flaw — too big and too complicated. Most people already have at least one PC in their home, so there is really no need for another computer to simply serve as a media center and SanDisk seems to agree. SanDisk has come to the rescue with this media center extender that was recently leaked by Buy.com.

The TakeTV is simple, really. It is a dock that plugs into your entertainment center that includes a USB port. Dump your video files onto the included 8 GB flash drive, plug it into the TakeTV cradle and press play. The good news is the confirmed support of DivX, XviD and MPEG-4. It also supports NTSC and PAL, as well has 4:3 standard and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratios.

There are a couple of downsides. The leak mentioned that it will only support Windows, but that doesn't make much sense given that it is simple a drag-and-drop system. The other downside is the lack of HD. It does support standard composite inputs and s-video, but seriously SanDisk, no love for HDMI or component? There is no word on pricing or availability, but SanDisk isn't one to generally overprice products and the DivX and XviD support definitely perks my ears.
