Tom's Stites, Nike's chief designer of such implements, calls it "the most forgiving iron Nike Golf has ever developed." He named the club Sumo because the weight of the club is positioned low and close to the shaft, thus taking advantage of what Nike calls the "Super Moment" of inertia when the club makes contact with the golf ball.
