Lightning Alarm Clock wakes you with an electrifying snap, crackle and pop

lightning_alarm.jpg

This Lightning Alarm Clock makes waking up in the morning a shocking experience. Arching over its conventional analog clock display is a hand-blown glass tube, and inside is a mini Tesla coil, spitting huge amounts of voltage right in front of you when it's time to wake up. It's described as "super bright," waking you up to a crackling, crazy electrical racket that's sure to knock you out of bed with a jolt.

Sounds scary, but never fear—it's just lightning in a bottle—all the electricity is confined inside the glass tube. The 14.5-inch device's clock runs on a AA battery, but the electricity comes from DC power, modulated by an AC adapter to produce that high voltage. We're wondering if it wastes a lot of energy cranking up that daily jolt of alarming intensity.
