You know LEDs are getting tremendously bright when you can put together seven of them for this bicycle headlight and end up with a fixture that's as bright as many car headlights. You can either mount the "Betty" lamp by Lupine Lighting Systems on your bicycle's handlebars or on special headgear that looks like a miner's lamp, and it cranks out a super-bright 1,400 lumens.
One major drawback of LEDs is heat dissipation, and that's why this light must be constantly moving to ventilate its LEDs, or else the fixture will automatically dim them to keep things cool. The Flintstones cartoon character Betty Rubble, the light's namesake, must be have been bright, hot, and expensive, because this light will set you back $1,185. Impractical? Yes, but it gives you a good indication of the state of LED lamp brightness now, and how much brighter ordinary LED lights will be in the next few years.
