This week in SCI FI Tech

We won't even try and pretend that the news wasn't all Apple all the time this week. Besides unveiling not one, not two, but three new iPods — including one with all the cool features of the iPhone — the company went ahead and dropped the price of the iPhone by $200. We being early adopters, we were a little annoyed at that, but then Steve Jobs gave us $100 back and now we're a little calmer. Just hope the Apple Store starts selling Ambien.

In light of the new iPods, columnist Stewart Wolpin took a fresh look at the iPhone, examining if it really is the breakthrough gadget it was hyped to be — and uncover a couple of issues that are only apparent after playing with it for a couple of months.

The top non-Apple headlines of the week:

Saturday: Toy rocket gives you an eye in the sky
Sunday: Peer Review: GPhone rumors stoke commentary, creativity
Monday: Transparent kayak offers clear view of murky depths
Tuesday: Lord of the Rings tech spawns cool med scanner
Wednesday: Docomo answers iPhone challenge in Japan
Thursday: Japan turns orbital bombardment into a good thing
Friday: Transformers cell phone serves your robo-fetish
