The Sound of Drums is digital with Lapbeat

lapbeat_1.jpg

Sure, pretty much any object can serve as a drum, but that doesn't mean it should. Coming from the other direction, the Lapbeat is a highly specialized drumming instrument, upgrading the common bongo by making it more lap-friendly and digital. The stool-shaped body has a speaker on the bottom and connections on the side (presumably for iPods and the like). Controls on the top will adjust the volume and richness of your beats, created by you tappings on the touchpad via v-drum MIDI technology.

Nice concept — miles ahead of the keytar. Designers Lee Dong Chul and Tamy Lee are no doubt taking bets on whether their creation will ever get made. Why not travel to the future and let us know if buskers are using the Lapbeat to annoy pedestrians in 2020?
