Subwoofers go wireless: Infinity and beyond

infinity_PS212W.jpg

There's no room for my subwoofer along the wall where my TV is. And since I need to put it in a corner to get the best bass, there's no escape from stringing a long cable from the front to the back of my room.

Or is there? Speaker maker Infinity feels my pain, creating the PS212W wireless subwoofer that needs no cable connection. Instead, you connect a 2.4-GHz transmitter to the subwoofer jack in the rear of your receiver, then place the sub wherever you want. You still need to plug it in, of course — that 400-watt amplifier isn't going to get power out of the air. But with a 12-inch driver, the PS212W should be able to add some serious pounding to your listening.

You'll need to keep your excitement on hold for bit, though, since Infinity's wireless wonder sub won't make its debut until January '08, when it'll go on sale for the pretty-reasonable $680. For more modest home theaters, Infinity's sister company JBL will offer the 10-inch, 300-watt CSS10W for $600.
