Sony unveils four new Blu-ray recorders for some reason

SONY_BDZ_X90_1.jpg

Despite both HD-disc formats stalling out with mediocre sales due to a justifiably confused consumer base, Sony has gone ahead and announced not one, not two, not three, but four Blu-ray recorders. Keep chasing that shooting star, Sony.

The models can all read and write dual-layer Blu-ray discs and all have hard drives of varying sizes. The lowest-end BDZ-T50 has dual analog-TV tuners, while the other three each have a pair digital tuners. They all have HDMI jacks, with the higher-end models having gold-plated HDMI (ohhhh!). There's also a difference in resolution: The lower-end models having 1080p at 24 frames per second and the highest having 1080p at both 60 and 24 fps. These are going to Japan only at the moment, but who knows? Maybe Sony will win the format war and these will come to America eventually. Also, maybe I'll win the lottery and marry a supermodel.

Only two models neccessary. Cheap model that does what we want at low low prices and the expensive model that rich people can toss money at. Really, exactly the same thing. After 1080i you start to become one of those guys that say despite MP3s covering the audible range of human hearing, we still think CDs are better due to their inaudible perfection.
I guess I'm lame like that as well, cause I think DVDs are better quality than Blue Ray because it gets the job done, quicker, cheaper and requires no further investment in a 48%/48% war between two next gen formats. 4% left for this format war becoming a war of attrition and neither side winning.
