Great news for humanity: Russia just tested the largest non-nuclear bomb ever, a vacuum bomb that took out an area the size of two football fields. The "Father of all Bombs" consisted of seven tons of some sort of secret explosive dropped via parachute onto an unsuspecting test site.
It works in two fun steps: First, it explodes a bunch of fuel outward, then it ignites said fuel, killing everything within three miles. Three miles! Now that's a precision instrument right there. Oh, and if you're lucky enough to be just outside that three mile radius, you'll go deaf. That's because anyone within four miles will get their eardrums smashed to smithereens. Boy, doesn't that sound fun? On the plus side, there won't be any nuclear fallout afterwards, so there's, uh, that.

Not too many people know it, But Russia is getting its steam back...and thats not a good thing.
There are a lot of things falling into place that make it look like in the future...they might change their name back to the Soviet Union.
Here are Some recent things to back me up, of course this article about the biggest non-nuclear bomb in the world. and they have put back into service their premier long range bomber to start doing recon missions. They are planning on building half a dozen new carriers to always have 1 the Atlantic and 1 in the Pacific. They are building their own anti-missile shield. They have their first stealth ship in the water. There new subs (next year) will be equipped with the new bulava missiles (which have a range of 10,000km) this missile is thought to be designed with one opponent in mind the United States, because of its maneuverability it cant get hit by any existing missile defense system because it "zig-zags" to its destination, making it very very hard to track and hit while in-flight. Oh, and let’s not forget that the Russian President Vladimir Putin is Former KGB.

How come the only place I hear this news, Russia's bomb testing, is on The Daily Show (Jon Stewart)? It isn't in the paper, on the TV. I have to search the internet...Seems news worthy to me.

Where do you get three miles from? To kill everything in a three mile radius you need more than 150 kT nuke airburst at optimal burst height. The graphic in the vid shows 300m radius of destruction. That's 1/3 of a mile.

This is another "fuel bomb", which the United States already have for at least ten years. There is a movie called "Outbreak" (starring Dustin Hoffman) that uses one to destroy a city that was contaminated by a virus. In the movie, however (as a spoiler), Hoffman convinces the pilots that the virus has a cure and the bomb was dropped outside of the city (very good special effects).
I konw that this fuel bomb exists, and it works on the same principle that gasoline vapor explodes in an engine cylinder to make power. So, in fact, anyone who knows how it "explodes" can make one, not just the Russians. But since it uses liquid fuel, it isn't portable, so terrorists aren't convinced of making and using it against us.

In response to 101101's comment:
Russia uses the Metric system. The "300m" shown in the graphic is in Meters, not miles.
In response to jpeery's comment:
I read about this in the SF Chronicle, along with various places online. I believe it was on ABC news as well.

Yeah i highly doubt it kills everything in a 3 mile radius if the blast is only the size of 2 football fields. Probably got the distances mixed up.
And as a response to Jpeery's question about why its not on the news, its cause the government controls the news to some degree.Jon Stewart is the news done his way. In that respect, he can report on what he thinks is news. And this IS news people should know.
Lastly, so Russia is recovering and they are starting to look like america is food. Duh. America Polices the planet, people will resent that. Hell the american government manipulates its own people to keep things running smoothly. Now i'm no conspiracy theorist or anything like that, but ask yourself this: if america was holding back russia so they couldn't become as strong finanically or a strong millitary power, wouldn't that make them a little upset once they claw their way back to power?
That said I don't think the russians are gunna go after us first. They are counter-punchers. They'll make weapons and plans but only use them if america steps on their toes....which we'll do cuz america can't stop being nosy.

In response to 101101 and sgtbytor, as well as the article:
1 meter equals approximately 3.28 feet. Therefore 300 meters = 984 feet, or 0.186 mile. (Why can't we just get rid of our medieval system of weights & measures and go metric like the rest of the planet? Sheesh!)
As for the "area the size of two football fields", I think the key word is "area". The area of two football (not soccer) fields is about 10700 square meters. That would be a circle with a diameter of about 116.7 meters, or 382.8 feet.
Wouldn't want to be anywhere near this thing at detonation, but "killing everything within three miles" is clearly a gross exageration.

raymondjram, that was a movie and the explosion was CG.
I'm not arguing the fact that these are real, just saying that a movie is not a good source.

Large fuel/air bombs were used to open helicopter landing zones in the jungles of Vietnam. They were nicknamed "daisy cutters" because they'd flatten an area in a radially symmetrical pattern that resembled a daisy from above.
This "development" in Russia has nothing to do with military capabilities. A nuke can pack 100 times more destructive power in a much smaller and lighter package. One fuel/air bomb fills the cargo bay of a transport plane.

I ain't afraid of no Russian bomb test. Countries test big scary bombs all the time. That's probably why it's not news. "Today's news item, kitten did not get stuck up a tree." Would you report that? It's just proof of what a scary world we live in. Big scary bomb testing too boring to report on the news.
As for this malarkey about Russia going back to it's Soviet Union days (yeah, I wrote "marlarkey" even misspelled it, so there), seems terribly unlikely to me. Sure, we ain't friends with Russia, but the reason we were mortal enemies was because their government was Communist. It was a clash of political idealogies. And anybody who isn't completely brain dead knows that we won (don't really know what kind of prize we got other than no more *European* Communism).
Now, that they're a big capitalist country nobody in our government cares how many big scary bombs they have (hell, even small third world countries got big scary bombs).

Its really a nasty thing for future..I am not convinced by the Russian strategy..at one time they say there shouldn't be space centers with arms and ammunition guiding systems (read as Star Wars project of US) and on the other hand they are deploying new techniques in making such bombs..Its not a problem for me if they do so but one should be bias in his saying.. I don't think it will be better for Russia in future..
