It may not be a Mack truck transforming into Optimus Prime, but Plantronics has definitely taken a page out of Michael Bay's book with its latest morphing 855 Bluetooth headset. It's a bit different from the usual array of Bluetooth earpieces because it comes with a second, detachable earbud. With it detached, the 855 is a regular mono Bluetooth headset, complete with noise reduction. Clip on the earbud, and the 855 becomes a stereo headset for calls and wireless stereo music from a cell phone or MP3 player. The headset has controls for taking calls and controlling music playback.
There is still one slight problem with the 855. It may add convenience, but it takes that obnoxious-Bluetooth-earpiece look to the next level by making it even more asymmetric — a headset and small boom microphone on one side, and an earbud on the other.
The 855 can rock (or talk) for up to seven hours on a single charge. It'll be available in October for the slightly hefty price of $150.
