Muji is coming to America: At least one American rejoices

bangkok_muji.jpg

Muji, a Japanese store whose name is derived from the Japanese words for "no brand," is finally opening a store in the United States. The company is famous for its simply designed goods, from clothing to furniture and electronics, all of which are sold without labels or any branding whatsoever. Think of it as an upscale, design savvy No-Ad. We especially like these collapsible cardboard speakers, and this pull-string CD-player.

The Museum of Modern Art store already imports some Muji items, but we're looking forward to having access to all of the company's minimalist, functional, but not overpriced products. The first American Muji will open in New York City's Soho in mid-November, and a second is scheduled to open in Midtown Manhattan in 2008.

But how will they know that I shop at Muji if it doesn't SAY Muji on it?
