How to Comment, UN General Assembly edition

how_to_comment_2.jpgOn the way back from lunch, I saw Condoleezza Rice's motorcade stopped at the Fox News building (well, at least the bicycle vendor across the street said it was her motorcade). With our Secretary of State in town for the conflagration of diplomacy that is the UN General Assembly, it got me thinking about our own corner of the Internet here, and what a healthy exchange of technological ideas it can be. But maybe some of you aren't aware of how you can become a part of the discussion. Think of this post as my diplomatic envoy to you. To leave a comment, just follow these easy steps:

  • 1) Click on the post's headline or "Comments" link.
  • 2) Scroll down to the spot where it says "Post a comment."
  • 3) Click on "Sign in."
  • 4) If you don't have a SCI FI handle, click on "Get started here" and follow the registration instructions. It takes only a minute and all you need is an e-mail address.
  • 5) Now you're ready. Head back to the post to begin the negotiation.

If you had one of those php logins at the top, where the page doesn't really have to go through all that redirecting, and have comments be a little more on-the-fly, it would be easier for people to comment on things. The fact that we have to redirect becomes sort of annoying. Also, I'd recommend the comments to be on that pop-open format, where if you wanna see comments, you don't get redirected again, but instead, the comments pop open underneath the post itself, sort of like the windows explorer does with subfolders.
Thanks

Also, and this is a far-fetched idea, you could have sweepstakes, in where you could give away a few of those cool gadgets or things you publish about on your website (like idocks, ipods, usb powered mitten s and etc). For every new post a person comments (not for every comment, or else you get a flood) each person gets a point, and the more points you have, the more chance of winning the sweepstakes you have. I've discovered that for people to share their ideas online they need a little encouragement.
And if you're seriously thinking about the idea, please make the sweeps international, since many like me, lovers of Sci-Fi Tech live in other parts of the world.
