Hard drive keeps time, still won't hold data

harddriveclock.jpg

If you have a spare hard drive lying around taking up space, and a bit of time on your hands, you could create a stunning timepiece like the Harddisc-Uhr. The German-made clock is hacked together using parts from a Compaq computer, a little creative ingenuity, and a new way of thinking about time. The platter rotates once an hour, while the hard drive's arm remains stationary. A small red pointer actually moves down the arm counting off the minutes. If I knew a broken hard drive could be this beautiful, I wouldn't keep chucking mine in the trash when they finally die.
