Cell phones are everywhere these days — even kids and robots are running around with them. I guess it was only a matter of time before someone thought to attach them to pets as well. The PetsCell seems at first to be the world's saddest invention, what with allowing animal lovers to call home to their furry companions and babble on in that irritating baby-speak. However, this designed-for-dogs phone comes with a few other features that might interest the rest of us.
The PetsCell is built with animal safety in mind and, to that end, guards against their habits. It's GPS enabled so you'll be able to keep track of your pet, and allows you to specify a predefined area that you want your pet to stay within, alerting you if your pet roams outside of it. It's also waterproof, just in case you're trying to talk your dog out from under the porch in the rain. You don't have to worry about neighbors trying to coerce your canine into switching households as you can specify what numbers PetsCell will automatically receive. As mentioned, it features two-way voice communication, but how much use you get out of that is probably directly related to how stimulating you find your pet's conversation skills.
So here's the kicker: Without all the additional costs that come with a cell phone, PetsCell is already $500. Ask yourself, do you love your dog more than, say, an iPhone?
