Odd clothes are… fun? Well, if you're a terrible dancer like myself, you've got to find a way to stand out in a crowd. It's been a little while since I put on a dress, but I might just have to now that I've seen the Beat Dress.
This flashy garment uses 10 detachable patches, each one equipped with 10 LEDs that are powered by a battery sewn into the front of the dress. Thanks to a microcomputer-assisted equalizer and a microphone, the dress can discern a beat in ambient music that it flashes along to. The end result is an outfit that pulses in time with whatever you've got playing, whether you're just hanging out or at a club. Using several layers of material including see-through cloth and nylon, the light from the LEDs seem to form 3D images as the dress is in motion. It's great way for a "club stander" like myself to look like I'm doing a lot when I'm really not.
The Beat Dress is the work of designer Calle Rosenqvist, a student at the School of Arts and Communication at Malmö University in Sweden.

This reminds me of the first time I saw someone wearing LED clothing...It was a crazy club guy from Germany, late one night on a Chicago Transit Authority bus. He showed us his shirt while telling us about how he was arrested for indecency on Venice Beach. The whole thing is a little too graphic to tell here, but wow - thanks for reminding me.
