Frequent breast exams help prevent death from breast cancer, while bras (preferably external) help prevent excess sagging and bouncing. Researchers in the U.K. decided to combine the two (breast screenings and bras, that is) to introduce a "smart bra" for early cancer detection.
The bra uses a "microwave antennae device" and embedded microchips to collect information and create an image of the breast. One of the bra's advocates describes it as "low-risk, non-invasive, simple-to-use and cost-effective." We're not sure if it's okay to have microwaves so close to the breast all the time, but if the technology does turn out to be safe it would sure beat those self-exams that we remember to do oh, about once a year.
