20 years of technological progress summed up in one picture

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which is so very true. While I could talk until I'm blue in the face about the amazing advancements technology has made over the last few decades, I think the photo above does a better job than I ever could.

What you're looking at is a gigantic 1GB hard drive from 20 years ago. The 70-pound, belt-driven monster is positioned next to someone holding up a 1GB Secure Digital (SD) flash-memory card for comparison. So there you have it: over the course of 20 years, 1GB of storage has gone from the size of a Yaris' engine to something smaller than a postage stamp. And hell, a 1GB flash card is actually pretty small compared to what else is out there. Pretty amazing stuff.
