Spirit of St. Louis Travel Alarm Clock takes you on a journey back in time

spirit_stlouis_clock.jpg

This Spirit of St. Louis travel suitcase timepiece takes the term "travel alarm clock" literally. Paying homage to transatlantic traveler Charles Lindbergh's historic flight from New York to Paris in 1927, this clock aims for vintage realism inside and out. The clock face looks just like the altimeter installed in the cockpit of that custom-built Ryan aircraft that made the 3,600-mile flight in just over 33.5 hours, a far cry from the 2-hour jaunt of the supersonic aircraft of today. It also has a couple of switches that would have fit in perfectly on the control panel of that vintage plane. Take a look inside the lid of the tiny suitcase, and you'll see a map of Lindbergh's route across the Atlantic. More info after the jump.

When it's time for you to take your own journey, the clock folds into that suitcase, a miniature version of the one Lindbergh might have stowed in the payload space of the Spirit of St. Louis — that is, if every square inch of the plane's interior hadn't already been filled with 450 gallons of fuel. The price of this replica is considerably less than the $10,000 cost of Lindbergh's plane — it's $39.
