Rumor has it that Sony is looking to beef up the media center capabilities of its Playstation 3, looking to add DVR support and a digital tuner to the gaming console. What's this mean for consumers? Well, if a version of the PS3 with these additions came out, you could use it to replace your TiVo, use it as a Blu-ray player, and still, you know, play video games on it.
Basically, if this happens, Sony will be gunning to make the PS3 the centerpiece of your home theatre setup. And if they manage to stuff all that junk in there with a large enough hard drive, they might just make it a desirable device. Combine this with the upcoming Home online system and the PS3 might just be becoming a contender, finally.
