Panasonic, together with a British design firm, has come up with a cameraphone accessory that's designed to make it super-simple to upload photos to a social-networking site like MySpace. The idea is you would slip your cell phone into a frame called the Pixi, using your phone's camera and network connection to take and upload the photos you take. The Pixi apparently makes it easier to get the pics onto Mixi (Japan's MySpace equivalent) by taking care of all the connecting/uploading once you press a single icon.
While the idea is better than Casio's half-hearted attempt to make digital cameras online-friendly, the Pixi strikes me as pretty redundant. Since it's using the phone's camera and network, it's little more than a shell. Couldn't the same thing be achieved with a software update for the phone? Come on, Japan — do I have to think of everything?
