'On' turns an extra-large audio meter into performance art

on_picture.jpg

Here's an oversized audio frequency spectrum analyzer that you hang on your wall. "On," called an "electronic dynamic luminescence sculpture-picture" by its creator Jean Octoban, has a built-in microphone that listens to the sounds of its surroundings, and depicts the frequencies it senses using a series of segmented bar graphs that dynamically rise and fall.

As soon as you touch a switch on its face, "On" begins reacting to sound levels with its animated graphics. You can adjust its microphone sensitivity so it can pick up even the quietest sounds, or set it to only respond to extremely loud sounds. Available in a choice of eight to 32 frequency bands, "On" can stay on for four hours on batteries, or can also run on AC power.

This piece of performance art might go well with those $100,000 speakers of yours; pricing starts at $8,200 for a 8-band model.
