Monster HDMI cables rated for the future… and beyond

monster_hdmi.jpg
from Monster Cable's website

Today Monster Cable announced the world's only speed-rated HDMI cables. They come in five flavors, ranging from Standard to Ultimate. The Standard cables are rated to handle today's HD signals while the high-end Ultimate cables (M1000 HD) have huge bandwidth in anticipation of future needs. Each package has indicators so you can see how much data the cable's pushing through. All Ultimate-level cables come with a "Monster cable for life" guarantee — the company's promise for a free HDMI upgrade if the 1000 cable can't handle the future tech.

My colleague Stewart Wolpin thinks a lot of the HDMI talk is just arguing about "angels dancing on the head of a pin." Noel Lee, the man in charge at Monster responds, "If you buy a cheap HDMI cable, it's quite possible that in today's climate of rapidly changing technology that maybe, just maybe, you'll have to buy a replacement." Draw your own conclusions, kids.
