Cooler heads prevail with the icy cap

cooling_hat.jpgLast week the heat index in Japan hit a record high of 106°F and over 60 people in country died as a result of the unprecedented heat wave. In response to the problem Kiribai Chemical Co. has a created an affordable solution that may actually save a few lives. Offered in convenient portable strip form, Kiribai's hat cooling pack can be applied to the inside of any baseball cap, discreetly tucked away from Tokyo's roaming, fashion-conscious eyes.

The strip offers a sustained cooling sensation and actually lowers the body's temperature by about 3°F. Although the hat application appears to be the most sensible solution, the company also offers different versions of the cooling strip for the neck, armpits (for those particularly gruesome days on the packed Tokyo subway), and in spray form. Priced at a mere 500 yen (about $4 US), Kiribai's self-styled "heatstroke solution" should be a hit when it reaches American shores.
