High Def video is finally getting to the hands of the masses, it seems. While this Canon HG10 isn't the first hard-drive-based HD camcorder we've seen, it's the smallest. Gone are the days of giant, bulky cameras that you need a pile of tapes to use. Now you can shoot professional-looking video straight to a hard drive on your camera for easy transfer to a computer for editing.
Priced at $1,299, it isn't the cheapest camera out there, but for what you get it's kind of an insanely good deal. The camcorder market has changed so much in the last few years; it would have been unimaginable for this sort of camcorder to exist for less than $5,000 but a couple years ago. It's a great time to be an amateur videographer.
