Apple unveils new brushed-aluminum iMacs

newimac.jpg

Apple just announced new versions of its all-in-one iMac computer. Featuring a new design with brushed aluminum and glass, it's certainly a slicker upgrade to the older models. Like the MacBooks, the new iMacs have an iSight camera built in, allowing for easy videoconferencing. As for sizes, the 17-inch model's gotten the axe, leaving only the 20 and 24-inch models.

As for the insides, the iMacs now sport the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with speeds ranging from 2GHz to 2.4GHz. You can load it up with up to 4GB of RAM and a whopping 1TB of storage space, but you'll of course be paying a serious price for such overkill. There will be three base models to choose from before customization: a $1,200, 20-inch version with a 2GHz processor, a $1,500, 20-incher with a 2.4GHz processor, and an $1,800, 24-incher with a 2.4GHz processor. The new iMacs go on sale today from apple.com and their stores.

Normally, I feel that Apple charges too much for their products. Sadly, I'm always seduced by the sexiness of their stuff that I grudgingly pay whatever they ask. This time the base model actually seems priced to move.

I see that this article left out the 24" w/a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme, 2GB memory, 500GB hard drive for $2.3k. They also boast a thinner profile by 1/4". They may be a lot $, but for a computer that actually works more often it is a huge value. Software is the largest delema when changing over from a PC still. Cost of all new software and lack of availability of the software you want designed for Macs. They have software to run PC software, but it slugs it down a bit and leaves you open to the viruses that plague PCs, so you will find yourself in that quandry. There are some alternative software through a movement called GNU that offer free or affordable versions of the software we PC addicts love.

My hope is that with all the revenue Apple has been getting for their IPods sales have given them the funds for advertising their computer lines much better than in the past and their sales increase, so software developers will take Mac users seriously now.

I would never pay more than $500 for a computer.

I am looking to sell the domain names cheapgooglephones.com cheapimacs.com aluminumimacs.com and thenewimac.com
