Sanyo's new HD camcorder is tiny yet robust

sanyohdcam.jpg

High-def camcorders continue to get smaller and smaller. While we were blown away pretty recently by Canon's new hard-disk HD camcorder offering, this new HD cam from Sanyo is even smaller.

The Xacti DMX-HD1000 is now the world's smallest HD camcorder, recording footage to SD cards rather than to a built-in hard drive. It has a 2.7-inch LCD screen, an HDMI output and a 10x optical zoom lens. Plus it can shoot 8-megapixel still pictures. For such a tiny, full-featured camera, the $1,000 price seems almost like a typo. It's coming out in Japan first, with release here in the States to follow at some point.
