HD TiVo for $300? Sold!

TiVo foto.jpg

After much ballyhoo, the public got what it wanted: A cheaper, but still pretty damned nice, version of an electronic product it covets. No, we're not talking about a pared-down iPhone that doesn't require a second mortgage, but rather the rumored new TiVo HD receiver.

As one of the legions of HD fanatics who also love TiVo but haven't been willing to plunk down $800 to combine the two, this $300 update is just the ticket I've been waiting for. Sure, it's lacking a few of the bells and whistles from its precursor, TiVo's Series3 HD DVR. For instance, it doesn't have THX certification, and whereas the Series3 could hold up to 32 hours of HD content on a 250-GB drive, the new TiVo HD holds a max of 20 hours of HD content on its 160-GB drive. But this is nitpicking when the box slashes the previous price by 63%.

Alas, amid the adulation, there is one carryover from the Series3 recorder that will mean a lot of still-frustrated TiVo fans out there: The TiVo HD doesn't work with satellite services, so DirecTV and Dish Network customers are out of luck. Hey, the folks at TiVo can't be expected to do everything right.

Unfortunately, I'm one of the (probably) many thousands of DirecTV/Tivo fans who are anxiously waiting for a replacement for the HR10-250 unit. Frankly, as the DirecTV HD-DVR seems to be so bad, I would pay just about anything for a Tivo unit that will handle the upcoming 150 DirecTV HD channels.
WHAT'S THE PROBLEM, TIVO?

I have had Tivo for 8 years and love it !!! for the last 6 months I have also had the directv DVR that does not work and Dies and has to be replaced about once a month or more I would pay any price for a HD Tivo The Directv DVR only lets you set 50 season pass and with 100 hd channels you can only record one show on half the channels I still watch my sd tivo most of the time because it just works never had a problem with it

I Love my Tivo!!. An affordable HD Player would be nice!! A true Jedi learns patience...in the meanwhile, for the HD Recorder

I love DVR's - it is the only new tech I own. It would be nice to get one that includes HD channels - boy do I miss analog! DVR’s like Tivo are very useful. No more missing your favorite shows because you didn’t program you VCR. An analog DVR’s may be to much to wish for.
