Alternative beach chair keeps you upright, sandy
beach_chair.jpg

It turns out that the only thing better than a good old collapsible beach chair may be half a beach chair. Designer Larry Laske figures that the point of the beach chair is to provide back support, not to keep you away from the sand. With this in mind, he's created a beach chair back that is supported entirely by the ground beneath it. Just shove the attached stakes into the sand, and you're done. I think we've seen this concept before… in the beach umbrella.

Design Within Reach is selling each "chair" for $50. If you've already made your beachfront property stylish at night with light-up rocks, then you'll probably want to consider upgrading your daytime beach furniture with these chairs as well.

If those spikes are sturdy enough to hold someone up, this thing could double as a weapon in a pinch.
