Real Networks' Media Player got an update today. I know, big deal. Who uses Real Player anymore? I know I haven't in years due to the fact that they turned it into a boated adwareosaurus some years ago, forfeiting their position as the leader of streaming video to more scrupulous competitors. But this new version actually does some cool stuff. Has Real learned its lesson?
The new version is cool because it can rip Web videos, such as those from YouTube, with a single click, prepping them for viewing on devices such as your iPod. Is that going to be enough for people to brave the Real download again? I'm not sure, as I know they've got a pretty horrendous reputation after all the stunts they pulled back in the '90s, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
