Either you're the kind person who is constantly annoyed by others at movie theaters, or you're the kind who is constantly annoying others. If you fall into the former category, you have reason to rejoice today. Regal Cinemas has announced that it will be introducing a "Guest Response System" in 114 of its theaters. The system is basically a paging device that the theater gives to "selected patrons" so they can alert a manager if something is going wrong. There are different buttons on the pager so that the manager can know whether to rush to the projection booth or to call the cops.
The buttons currently read "picture," "sound," "piracy," and "other disturbance." But like all devices, we expect the remote to become more sophisticated with time. There should eventually be buttons that read "throwing gumdrops at screen," "loud smooching noises in back row," "patron singing along with soundtrack," and "persistent BlackBerry buzzing." And let's not forget the all-important "other remote holders calling managers too often" button.
