Meet Bear. He's a new robot designed for military use. Since sending medics out in the line of fire to rescue wounded soldiers oftentimes results in two downed soldiers rather than just one, Bear is designed to go out in the line of fire and make the daring rescues instead. Able to lift up to 300 pounds with one arm, Bear can carry a soldier across rugged terrain and even up stairs. He can even move while "lying down," staying low and out of harms way.
It seems like a pretty amazing device, one that will undoubtedly save many lives when it's eventually implemented in the field. There are field tests planned for five years from now, so we should be seeing more of Bear in the news around that time.
