If you've had your cell phone more than, oh, 10 minutes and you're anything like me, then you probably marvel at the abuse you've subjected it to. If that's the case, then have I got the phone for you.
The Sonim XP1 does for mobile phones what helmets have done for snowboarders, namely protecting what had gone inexcusably unprotected. The phone, which admittedly is a bit larger than today's typical cell phones, is partly encased in heavy-duty rubber, which helps make it shock resistant from falls up to nearly 6 feet. It's also resistant to water, dust, salt, fog and humidity, and is packed with all the features one could want, including extra-loud speakers and walkie-talkie capabilities.
Naturally, the combination of durability and functionality doesn't come cheap. In fact, for Americans, in this case it doesn't come at all. The Sonim is only available in Europe for the time being, with a price tag of $464. No plans for introduction to the U.S. market have been divulged. Darn.
