Long ago, banks figured out that if they keep making it easier for us to access our money, the more likely we are to spend, spend, spend. The Mobil Speedpass has brought us to the point where you don't even need to swipe a card to buy gas anymore, but now a bank in Turkey has taken that same technology a whole lot further.
Using PayPass technology, the Garanti Bank has started offering its customers a watch that doubles as an electronic MasterCard, which you can use for small purchases without even being asked for anything as old school as a signature or PIN number.
So on your next trip to the Ankara Starbucks, with a flick of the wrist you'll be able to walk away with a Java Chip Frappuccino without the indignity of digging in your pockets for cash or a card. No word as to whether a U.S. bank might pick up on this idea, although I'm not sure I'd want to ride the New York City subway wearing a watch with a big Master Card logo on it.
